Woman creates ‘whimsical’ Little Mermaid inspired bathroom

A woman has transformed her “standard magnolia new-build” bathroom into a mermaid-themed paradise.

Mel Hamblett wanted to makeover the room which she said originally had no character.

She explained: “I knew I wanted to create a relaxing space that was still fun and whimsical.

“Themed around my favourite film, The Little Mermaid, I searched for pastel pink and mint shades to paint the walls and tiles, then created accents of gold on the taps, wall art and accessories.

“The bespoke floor was then colour matched to the paint colours I had chosen by For the Floor and More to really bring the room and mermaid theme together.”

Dominic Lees-Bell, interior design specialist at Drench said “We love what Mel has done with her once plain bathroom.

“She has transformed it into something so quirky and fun yet kept so on-trend. It’s so great to see that she has used more than half of our 2021 bathroom predictions within her design.”

Drench monitored their own searches and sales data observing for rises, in order to unveil their top bathroom trend predictions for 2021.

Trend #1: Brass bathroom details

While black fixtures appear to be a continuing trend, brass could be an even bigger trend in the new year. Sales for brass elements have increased a huge 120% over the past year. Brass immediately adds warmth to often cold bathrooms.

Trend #2: Pink is set to be a big bathroom focus

Expect to see Brits moving away from monochrome bathrooms in 2021 as the new year will bring colourful bathrooms to the mix, such as pink. Searches on Drench’s site for this playful colour have increased a staggering 79% since last year.

For a really colourful decor, a mint green or blue complements pink beautifully. And this is exactly what Mel has done in her new bathroom.

Drench say they have witnessed a 95% rise in searches for the term ‘blue’, suggesting this colour could be huge in bathroom décor.

But there really is no overtaking pink when it comes to bathroom interiors. Drench took to TikTok to see which colours are trending most and #pinkbathrooms has more than 1.8 million views with all other colours between 50- 500k views.

Trend #3: Bring the outdoors in

Whilst 2020 was largely spent indoors for many people, it appears that this has had an effect on Brits interior choices in the bathroom. Quite simply, Brits are seeking to bring the outdoors in wherever possible.

Experts have recently found that simply adding some plants around your home can make a huge difference in reducing stress and improve mental health.

Dominic Lees-Bell says “luscious greenery is right on trend – snake and ivy plants are great for the bathroom”. So be less stressed and on-trend with this first bathroom interiors tip.
