When is the World Cup finals draw and play-off final date as Wales beat Austria

Wales booked their place in the World Cup play-off final by beating Austria at Cardiff City Stadium.

Gareth Bale’s stunning double proved enough for Rob Page’s to earn victory in the semi-final encounter, with Marcel Sabitzer’s deflected effort proving to be merely a consolation for the visitors.

Here are all of the details you need to know about the play-off final along with the draw for the Qatar tournament.

When is the World Cup play-off final?

Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, three play-off matches in Wales’ path were postponed. Scotland’s semi-final with Ukraine will now take place in June, with the final set to be held in the same month.

FIFA are yet to confirm an exact date for the fixtures, although full details will be announced in due course.

When is the World Cup finals draw?

The draw for the Qatar World Cup remains on its original date of Friday, April 1. It takes place at 5pm BST.

How will the draw work?

A total of 32 teams will compete at the Qatar tournament between November and December this year.

Hosts Qatar will be named among the top seeds, with all competing nations set to be split into four pots based on their FIFA ranking as of March 31.

Each of the eight groups in the finals can have no more than one team from any continental confederation, aside from Europe who can have a maximum of two of its countries in any given pool.

The draw will be streamed live on the FIFA website. It will also be shown online by the BBC.

So who do Wales play next week?

As a result of their triumph against Austria, there was no requirement to face Scotland. Instead, Rob Page’s side will take on Czech Republic at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, March 29. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
