President Trump accused Joe Biden of wanting to pack the Supreme Court with left-wing judges in an early-morning tweet Saturday.
“Joe Biden will PACK THE COURT. Also, he never gave the answer who his Radical Left Justices will be!” Trump posted.
Moments before he also attacked “the failing” New York Times over their ongoing reporting into his tax returns.
“I paid many millions of dollars in Taxes to the Federal Government, most of which was even paid early, or PREPAID. MANY $MILLIONS. The Failing @nytimes never likes reporting that!” he said.
The issue of court packing has taken on new urgency for Democrats looking to reverse the influence of President Trump’s three Supreme Court appointments and the prodigious numbers of conservative federal judges confirmed to the bench in recent years.
Prominent Dems like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have publicly urged Biden to “expand” the court if elected. For weeks Biden hedged on the question before finally stating that he would punt the issue to a commission.
“If elected, what I will do is I’ll put together a national commission of — bipartisan commission of scholars, constitutional scholars, Democrats, Republicans, liberal, conservative. And I will ask them to over 180 days come back to me with recommendations as to how to reform the court system because it’s getting out of whack,” he told ’60 Minutes’ last week.
