The epic photos that show the sweat, tears, and sheer joy at the return of Swansea Half Marathon

Up to 5,000 runners were expected to take part in the closed-road event in the city

Thousands of people have taken part in the Swansea Half Marathon 2021 as the event returned for the first time in 28 months.

And it’s fair to say it was welcomed back in style with 5,000 runners descending on the city for the event.

An early start didn’t deter participants with the race taking place in the city on the same day as the Championship showdown between Swansea City and Cardiff City at the stadium (you can get all the updates and reaction to that game here).

The half marathon began at 7.55am for wheelchair athletes while the elite athlete and mass races started at 8am. They took off from Brangwyn Hall and finished at Adelaide Street after completing the 13.1-mile run.

Richie Powell (in a blistering time of an hour and 54 seconds) won the wheelchair race while Samuel Goodchild (one hour nine minutes and 28 seconds) and Sonia Samuels (one hour 14 minutes and nine seconds) were the first men and women across the line from the elite and mass runners.
