Swansea City transfer news: Euro side targeting Swans and Bristol City raids as Russell Martin bigs up ‘incredible’ starlet

This is the latest transfer news, views and gossip from the Stadium

Anderlecht eying Jamal Lowe?

National reports state that Belgian side Anderlecht are keeping tabs on Swansea City’s Jamal Lowe and Bristol City’s Antoine Semenyo.

Lowe started in Russell Martin’s first game in charge of Swansea at Blackburn Rovers at the weekend, and with Swansea in need to goalscoring reinforcements, not departures, it would be a head-scratching move if it did transpire.

Lowe was Swansea’s second top scorer last term, behind the now departed Andre Ayew.

Martin revealed after the 3-0 win over Reading on Tuesday night that further signings are to be expected.

“There will be more signings. I can’t put a number on how many, but we’re still short in a few areas,” he explained.

“What a few players have done tonight [at Reading] is really put themselves in the frame for us where maybe we thought they were a bit further out than they are.

“But we need to add people to help the guys. They’ve had an incredible two years of getting into the play-offs, so they deserve a huge amount of respect for that. A lot of them have not had a break or had a very short break, so they need energy, and new players often bring that.

“We have to make sure the players we bring in improve us and we’re not just doing it for the sake of it.

“We all want a nice big squad to pick from, but they need to really add to us on and off the pitch.”

Shankland agrees Beerschot move

Dundee United have stated they have accepted a bid from Belgian side Beerschot for striker Lawrence Shankland.

Shankland, 25, is a player admired by Martin after he tried to sign him while at MK Dons and Swansea links emerged following the head coach’s appointment in south Wales.

But he won’t be coming to the Stadium. Shankland said on United’s website : “I have really enjoyed my time at Dundee United and I would like to thank everyone at the club from the playing staff and coaches to the support staff both at Tannadice and St Andrews.

“I came to United with the objective of developing personally and helping the club get back to the Premiership and I now see it is the right time to take the next step in my career development elsewhere.

“The fans support for me was amazing right from the off and I will always be grateful for their backing and, hopefully, I will be back one day to see them all. I also have to mention the backing I have received from the chairman and vice-chairman who made me feel such a part of this club and welcomed me in so warmly.

“I leave knowing there is an excellent squad and great coaches at United and I am excited to see how successful this season will be for them. I now look forward to my future in Belgium and cannot wait to get started. Thank you to everyone at Dundee United.”

Martin bigs up youngster

Head coach Martin was impressed by his players’ endeavour against the Royals on Tuesday night and picked out new signing Joel Piroe for praise.

But he also identified a promising youngster in Swansea’s ranks who made his first-team debut in Berkshire.

Daniel Williams has been knocking on the door for a while now, and his performance against the Championship side could push Martin into a decision over what to do with the midfielder before the August 31 transfer deadline.

A loan move could be on the agenda, but nevertheless, Martin was impressed.

“We had a few people play tonight who did not get a game at the weekend,” said Martin.

“I thought they all impressed. I thought Dan Williams for his first-ever start was incredible.

“I was really, really pleased with the job he did, Joel was also fantastic and I could go on.”
