Swansea City transfer headlines as Sheffield Wednesday and former Bristol City man considered and exits remain on cards

Swansea City remain in the market for another striker this summer.

The Swans have already added Kyle Joseph and Joel Piroe to their ranks ahead of the 2021/22 campaign but they are eager to add an additional number nine to their squad.

Famara Diedhiou – who was released by Bristol City in May – had been considered as an option.

However, the striker’s wage demands proved to be a stumbling block as far as Swansea were concerned.

On Monday, it was confirmed that the forward had joined Turkish outfit Alanyaspor.

It has ensured Swansea’s focus now lies on other transfer targets, which also include the possible addition of a creative player and potentially a right-sided defender following the injury suffered by Connor Roberts.

Barry Bannan has been touted as a potential summer signing, although other potential suitors – which reportedly include Brentford – would be in a stronger position to swoop due to the finances involved.

Bannan would be among the highest earners should he move to the Liberty Stadium while the transfer fee would be in the region of £1m.

After three successive seasons in the Championship, Swansea are no longer receiving parachute payments following their relegation from the Premier League in 2018.

It means it remains essential to sell key assets this summer if they are to be sustainable.

George Byers – who joined Portsmouth on loan last term – could be offloaded while captain Matt Grimes is likely to command the largest transfer fee of any Swansea player should he move on to pastures new.

Swansea begin their 2021/22 Championship campaign against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday, August 7.

The summer transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday, August 31.
