Scripture Union Daily Guide 22nd July 2021 – A Message Of Comfort To The Exiles

Topic: A Message Of Comfort To The Exiles

Opening Prayer: Let me know more of you today dear Lord as I meditate on your word.

ScriptureEzekiel 11:14-25

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 22nd July 2021 Message

Those left behind in Jerusalem after the exile felt more righteous than their brothers (v.15). How incorrect they were! The Lord was the one protecting them all, even in exile (v.16). In response, God promises several remedies, including bringing back the exiles and giving them a new heart and spirit (vs.17,19). Which other promises are listed here? Identify some “I will” that are not desirable, and the reason for them (e.g. v.21).

Which of these promises do you desire most for your life right now? Most blessings have conditions attached. Note some of them mentioned here as God’s expectations (listed as “You/they will”, e.g. vs.18,20). For example, why would God not tolerate idols alongside temple worship (v.18), a practice that is common in many African communities?

Ezekiel declares God’s Word to the Israelites in captivity (vs.24-25). That was the purpose for the revelation. But it had to be done only by the Spirit’s power. How do you treat God’s messages, especially in revealing Jesus to you? Do you keep this all to yourself, or are you an active witness to those around you?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Thank you, Lord, for the promise of a new spirit and a new heart fulfilled in Christ Jesus. • Pray for daily devotional publishers who are helping Christians to meet God daily through bible reading and prayer.
