Patrick Harvie claims Scots Tories have voted more with SNP than Greens have

Patrick Harvie has hit back at the Tories after they blamed him for their failed attempt to oust John Swinney at Holyrood.

The co-leader of the Scottish Greens came under criticism from the Scottish Conservatives after his party refused to back a motion on a vote of no confidence in the Deputy First Minster.

But earlier today the Glasgow MSP hit back saying the “Conservatives have nothing serious to offer Scotland” and that they vote more with the SNP than the Greens do.

Swinney survived the late night vote last night after the Greens sided with the SNP. Members rejected the motion by 65-57.

A vote was brought after Swinney twice refused to publish legal advice requested by a committee of MSPs investigating the Scottish Government’s botched handling of complaints made against the former SNP leader.

Labour, the Tories, and Lib Dems all argued why Swinney should be held accountable for the delays in evidence being passed to the committee.

Ahead of the vote the Greens said they wouldn’t vote with other opposition parties which angered the Tories.

Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross went on the attack.

He said: “Their cause always comes first – and that’s independence, not the environment. Their true colours are not green, they are SNP yellow.”

However, Harvie hit back on Good Morning Scotland earlier saying the Tories voted with the SNP more than the Greens had.

“We cannot allow this issue to be turned into this piece of political theatre simply because the Conservatives have nothing serious to offer Scotland other than conspiracy theories,” he said.

“The Conservatives throughout this session have voted more often with the SNP than the Greens have.

“They don’t like admitting that, but they have.

“We’ve held the government to account on many issues which have a far bigger influence on government policy.

“We’re putting forward ideas that will improve the lives of the people of Scotland.”
