Liverpool v Cardiff City FA Cup date, kick-off time and TV channel details announced

Cardiff City’s mouthwatering FA Cup fourth round clash with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will take place at noon on Sunday February 6, it has been announced.

ITV will screen the game as a lunchtime kick-off, Liverpool versus Cardiff one of six cup clashes that will be televised that weekend.

A bumper Bluebirds attendance is expected at Anfield, with thousands of fans travelling up for the game despite the inhospitable kick-off time.

The other matches being shown on TV include Manchester United v Middlesbrough on the Friday night, then Kidderminster v West Ham and Spurs v Brighton on Saturday.

On the Sunday Liverpool against Cardiff is the first game, followed by Nottingham Forest versus Leicester (4pm) and Bournemouth v Boreham Wood (6.30pm).

Steve Morison and his team will be looking to spring a major upset in front of a nationwide TV audience.

Liverpool and Cardiff have not met since a rip-roaring Premier League game at Cardiff City Stadium in April 2019, when Klopp’s men edged it 2-0 through Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner second half goals after a tense opening 45 minutes.

Liverpool have won the four Premier League fixtures between the sides, but cup games have been tighter.

Cardiff took the 2012 League Cup final to a Wembley penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw, with Anthony Gerrard missing his spot-kick to hand Steven Gerrard and his team the trophy.

An Anfield League Cup game in 2007 was narrowly won 2-1 by Liverpool, with Gerrard grabbing the winner 46 seconds after Darren Purse had scored Cardiff’s equaliser.

That was the night when Robbie Fowler returned to Anfield in Cardiff colours, the 32-year-old front man receiving a standing ovation from the two sets of supporters.

That 2007 cup win means Liverpool have triumphed in the last six meetings between the sides, but prior to that Cardiff boasted an impressive record versus the Reds, winning eight out of the previous nine clashes.

Can they do it again on Sunday February 6?
