‘He’ll shine up there’ — Pundit backs Cardiff City loanee Harry Wilson to benefit from link-up with Liverpool legend at Rangers

Harry Wilson would thrive with Scottish champions Rangers should he decide to leave Liverpool this summer.

That’s according to ex-Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips.

Wilson has enjoyed a reasonably successful loan spell at Cardiff City, reminding everyone of his obvious quality by netting a scintillating hat-trick against Birmingham City at the weekend.

It remains to be seen what happens next, with Bluebirds boss Mick McCarthy calling on Jurgen Klopp to include the Welshman in his plans next season.

However, it seems the Reds have not yet shown their hand in terms of their plans for the 24-year-old, who has previously enjoyed loan spells at Derby County, Hull City and Bournemouth.

Should he leave Merseyside, there will likely be plenty of interest in taking him on, although it remains to be seen what sort of valuation Liverpool have placed on the player, after seemingly pricing him out of a permanent move last summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Sunderland striker Phillips believes a move to Ibrox would suit the winger.

“He’s got a lot of quality, he knows [Steven] Gerrard, he’s an exciting young talent,” he said.

“Wilson’s not going to cost fortunes and fortunes and he’ll shine up there at Rangers.

“He’s an exciting attacking player and he’s one that Stevie can nurture and get more out of.

“Again, I’m not criticising the league up there but with his quality he can definitely shine, it’s just where Stevie would play him.”

Wilson’s future beyond the end of the season clearly remains up in the air, although the player himself is keen to focus on shining for Wales at the European Championship this summer.

However, speaking after the win at St Andrew’s, Wilson admitted he may well have to look elsewhere if he’s not in Liverpool’s long-term plans.

He said: “I’m determined to have a good tournament there and, if it’s not with Liverpool [next season], I’m determined to get a move. I feel I deserve to play at the highest level I can.”
