Former Celtic boss ‘would definitely be interested’ in Cardiff City job

Former Cardiff City and Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley says his old boss Neil Lennon would be interested in replacing Mick McCarthy.

McCarthy was sacked immediately after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Middlesbrough – an eighth successive loss.

You can follow live updates as the search for a new boss begins, here.

Ledley’s former team-mate Michael Chopra has previously suggested ex-skipper Mark Hudson as a potential option.

And there has also been speculation surrounding Chris Wilder after the former Sheffield United boss watched the Bluebirds’ defeat to Fulham in midweek. He is the early bookies’ favourite.

Lennon has been out of work since ending his second spell at Celtic in February following a dismal run of results.

Ledley told BBC Radio Wales before the ‘Boro match: “It is a difficult one. I heard rumours Chris Wilder was at the last game so there’s links there.

“The person who comes in has to realise there will be no money and it will be a difficult task to turn it around. A lot of players are leaving at the end of the season as they are out of contract.

“It’s down to Cardiff to appoint the right person.

“Mark [Hudson] is an up-and-coming manager. I know him very well and he is hungry to get into the game. He may have to wait his time but it would be perfect for him.

“Neil Lennon is still out there who I worked with at Celtic. He would definitely be interested, I know.”

Cardiff are expected to make a decision on the new boss by the end of November’s international break, with U23s boss Steve Morison overseeing things until then.
