Grimes speaks out
Matt Grimes says the international break has been a valuable period for Swansea City as they get used to Russell Martin’s methods.
Skipper Grimes was heavily linked with a move away this summer, with Fulham keen to land the midfielder amid intense speculation over his future.
But come 11pm on deadline day, Grimes was still a Swansea player and he’s now spoken of the benefits of having increased time on the training pitches ahead of the game against Hull City this weekend.
“This break really gave us a good opportunity to get a lot of good work and preparation done,” he said.
“It is a really useful time for us because it gave the gaffer a chance to really get his methods and instructions across.
“Since his appointment, we only had a couple of days before the first game, and it’s been two-game weeks since then, which means he hasn’t really had the chance to properly implement his style on the team just yet because there hasn’t been enough time in between.
“I think the fact that everyone understands that it will take patience and time for everything to click is important. You don’t often hear about that in football, but here at Swansea, we have fans, players, coaches and staff who understand that aspect.
“The last week has been great for us, and the squad are taking those messages on board and hopefully you can start to see that in games, starting this weekend.”
