Cardiff City transfer news: Striker’s move ‘blocked’, Wolves given Kieffer Moore warning and summer signing linked with Blackpool

A full roundup of the latest Cardiff City news for Friday, August 27.

Watkins says Bluebirds blocked move

Marley Watkins has opened up on his Cardiff City exit.

The forward was signed on trial over the summer, with the Bluebirds announcing before their Carabao Cup game with Sutton United that the Welshman had penned a short-term deal with the club until the end of August.

But Mick McCarthy later stated that the former Bristol City man wouldn’t be staying in the Welsh capital, and he has now penned a two-year deal with Aberdeen, a club he has spent time with before.

“I’m over the moon to be back, loved it here my first time,” he said at his unveiling on Thursday night.

“I can’t wait to get going. Hopefully the boys get a good result tonight and we have a great season.”

It’s a return to the Scottish club for Watkins, who says he has unfinished business north of the border.

“Yeah, I came here last time and I wasn’t even fit,” he said. “I was coming here to get games and now I’m fit. I’ve had a good pre-season and I’m hoping to hit the ground running and hopefully I can deliver.

“I got in at Cardiff but the chairman at Cardiff blocked it, and then Aberdeen were still interested, luckily, so I’m here now and I can’t wait to get going – it’s a great club.

“So many exciting games to be a part of, we want to be as ambitious as possible. I see we are building a great squad.”

Moore not the answer for Wolves – Agbonlahor

Wolves have been told not to sign Cardiff City striker Kieffer Moore.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes the big Bluebirds striker is not the answer to Wolves’ striker issue.

The Premier League outfit has been linked with a £7million move for the Wales international, although Mick McCarthy has confirmed an offer has yet to be received.

Agbonlahor says Wolves already have enough stock in the striking department without Moore’s arrival.

Asked whether Moore could be the answer to Wolves’ struggles in front of goal, Agbonlahor said : “Not for me, no.

“They’ve got Jimenez there, they’ve got their number one striker. They’ve got Fabio Silva there who can be OK at times.

“So no, I don’t think he’s the answer for Wolves.”

Wintle linked with Blackpool

Summer signing Ryan Wintle is being linked with a loan move to Championship rivals Blackpool.

The midfielder only arrived at the club in July on a free transfer from Crewe Alexandra.

He has played just 25 minutes of league action, but did get two 90-minute run-outs in the Carabao Cup.

Wintle faces competition in the middle of the park from Will Vaulks, Marlon Pack, Joe Ralls and Leandro Bacuna.

McCarthy has Moore contingency plans

McCarthy says he isn’t sitting at home worried about Moore’s possible departure – because he can’t do much about it.

The boss says that if a huge offer came in for the striker, then the club would have to consider it.

What they can do, however, is prepare contingency plans and that’s exactly what McCarthy has done, revealing that his recruitment team are busy just in case something transpires with Moore.

He said on the Official EFL podcast : “As I’ve got older, I just realise… there’s nothing I can do about people sniffing around Kieffer Moore.

“If someone comes in and offers a huge amount of money, the club I’m sure will consider it.

“And he’s want to go if he could get to the Premier League, because I would, if I was a player.

“So, I don’t sit at home and worry about it, we just get the recruitment guys out to get our lists out that we’ve looked at on players just in case.”
