Cardiff City and Swansea City reportedly join Rangers and Sunderland in race for 15-goal striker

Cardiff City and Swansea City are among a clutch of EFL clubs reportedly keeping tabs on Morecambe forward Carlos Mendes Gomes.

According to Football League World, the South Wales duo are among a number of admirers of the former Atletico Madrid starlet, who’s netted 15 goals in League Two so far this season.

Hull City, Peterborough United, Sunderland, Barnsley, Luton Town and Huddersfield Town, are among the other names mentioned, while reports in Scotland have also suggested champions Rangers have taken note of the 22-year old’s form.

Both Cardiff and the Swans are likely have a striker at the top of their respective transfer wishlists this summer.

Bluebirds boss Mick McCarthy has made little secret of his desire to take the load of responsibility off Kieffer Moore’s shoulders, and has already admitted that German striker Robert Glatzel will be allowed to leave this summer.

Meanwhile, the Swans too are in need of greater depth in the final third, although their summer targets will be determined by the outcome of their ongoing play-off bid.

Peterborough’s Jonson Clarke-Harris has previously been mooted as an option for both clubs, although he will likely carry a price tag that will prove beyond both teams.

It remains to be seen what sort of price the Shrimpers would place on Gomes, with his current deal set to expire this summer, although the Scottish Sun claims the club do have the option to extend his contract by another year.

Morecambe boss Derek Adams insists he remains relaxed on the forward’s future, and suggested earlier this week that there were no concrete bids on the table at this stage.

He said: “It’s not beneficial for me, the club or Carlos to say what the situation is, but I’m very comfortable with it as I’ve said all along.

“Until there’s a bid put in for any of our players, speculation is all it is.

“It is a good thing to have though. If other clubs are being linked with your players, it means something positive must be happening.

“Carlos is a fantastic boy, you can tell that by his work ethic in training and in games.”
